TofS Result.

Just back from Throne of Skulls. Went 4-0-1 and took "Best Blood Angels Player" (without the assistance of any "soft scores"!). Delighted with that, but a little depressed...! I've never gone better than 2-1-2 with my Tau, and I go 4-0-1 with at silly BA list. Just shows how behind the pace the Tau Codex is at the moment.

Some brief battle reports to follow.

Excitement at Throne of Skulls

Well for me at least. At Warhammer World last night and the Tau minis in the hall of miniatures are "on campaign"! Does this mean a new codex in the offing?

Throne of Skulls

Throne of Skulls next weekend. Yippee! I always enjoy Throne of Skulls. I know lots of people gripe about it, and there are lots of things that they could change to make it better (the soft scoring for example!), but I just love the venue….Warhammer World is great. And even better my brother is joining me. He’s posted here a couple of times as Nuanced Confusion. He’s based in the US, and I don’t see him nearly often enough. He’s coming over for one of his regular trips home, and it just so happens that it coincides with TofS……(maybe next year I’ll go over for the Nova Open!).

So last 3 Throne of Skulls I’ve taken Tau. I’ve done pretty average. I’ve gone 2-1-2 at all of them! At the first 2 I won “Best Tau General”, and would have done so again at the last one if not for the soft scoring (not that I’m bitter… much!). But you know what…….I fancy a change.

IA Tau lists.

Before I go on I’ve just realised I forgot to mention 2 new options – the different turrets for the Hammerheads, and the XV89 Commander Suits.
I can’t get very excited about either of them to be honest. As for the Hammerheads turrets, the only one that’s interesting is perhaps the long range burst cannon. For a fewer points you can emulate the long range anti infantry of the Railgun’s sub-munition large blast. Also the plasma would be interesting, if it was still AP2, but then again the benefit over normal plasma guns is grater range, but at range they will normally have cover. But the biggest problem of all is that they compete in the FOC with Broadsides.
As for the XV89s I’m not convinced that there is a huge benefit over the normal command suits. The only one that’s interesting is the one that packs the Smart Missile System. That could put out some significant fire power. However, the thing that puts me off is that the SMS is a heavy weapon, and suits are not relentless. Not sure I want to give up my mobility for 4 S5 AP5 shots.
So, back to the main point of the post – an IA list.

Latest Tau List

I’ve been reviewing my Tau posts and I’ve realised I forgot to complete my “Tau From the Ground Up” series. So this is that post. I’ll get on to thinking about a list for the Tau IA units later in the week.
A quick recap. After a bunch of games and 2 Tournis I had come to the conclusion that whether you take Hammerheads or Broadsides has a big impact on the rest of your list. If you take Broadsides, the best place for your plasma is on them, allowing you to run cheaper Deathrains. However, because you do not have the Hammerheads to hide behind, nor to draw fire from your suits, you need to run Gun Drones. If you run Hammerheads you need to run plasma on your XV8s, which probably means Fireknives, although there is not the same need for gun drones.

Imperial Armour Tau Units Fast Attack

This is where the really interesting stuff is.

Tetras
Tetras are an AV10 fast skimmer with a Pulse Carbine and a Disruption Pod for 50 pts. Nothing terribly exciting. However, they also come standard with a High Intensity Marker Light, which pushes out 4 marker light shots per turn.

That is huge.
