Clan Wars List

Ok, so my next tournament is Clan Wars, an 1850pt, "no holds barred" ETC qualifier, and (as usual) I'm agonising over list choice. 

It's no forge world, so I need to drop the tetras from my Cally list. The obvious replacements are some marker drones in a death rain squad, however, I've been thinking about that.....!

How many marker lights are enough?

Caledonian Uprising - After Action Report

Just back from Cally. What a weekend! Never been to such a big tournament. One hundred and eighty people registered. I think something like 175 people played in the end. Haven’t’ drunk so much beer in a very long time, laughed so much, or played so many challenging games of 40k.

I can not recommend this event enough. Incredibly well organised, and professionally run. It’s probably the closets thing we have to the big GTs in the US (Adeptacon, Nova etc), although without all the side events.

The Road to Cally

The Caledonian Uprising is one of the most competitive tournaments in the UK Calendar. Traditionally it’s also one of the biggest. This year it has 180 people registered. I don’t think there are any other tournaments in the UK that will exceed this. 

It's held in the North West Gaming Centre in Stockport near Manchester (I think .. my English Geography is a bit limited). It’s a bit of a drive (around 3 hours) but there is a bunch of us making the trip south so it will qualify as the closest thing I get to a “boys weekend” these days. Really looking forward to it.

Whisper it  ….. I’m playing a lot of 40k again! 

Not sure why – but for the first time in a long time, I’m enjoying playing 40k competitively again. I’m just back from Heat 3 of the UK GT, where I qualified for the final (just!). I’m committed to trying to get into the Scottish ETC team (unlikely, but we’ll see), and more importantly I’ve found a Tau list that’s fun to play and reasonably competitive.

7th Edition and Teenage Romance

When I was in my final year at school I had a huge crush on one of the girls in my class. I fell for her like only an 18 year old can. I was obsessed. Sadly it was entirely unrequited.

A few years later I met her again, and we spent some time together. With a few years perspective I really couldn’t see why my 18 year old self fell for her so hard. Other women were way hotter and way more interesting.

And that’s kinda how I feel about 7^th edition. I’m totally over my obsession with 40k.

Excitement Mounting

Well, against my better judgement I'm getting excited abut 7th edition!

I like some of the rumours I'm reading. Unbound armies are silly, but I'm assuming that most tournaments will just ignore them (oh and Lords of war of course!)

I like the sound of the Maelstrom of War missions. Variable missions, where you score points at the end of each turn actually sound quite fun. And the psychic phase ..... sounds OK!

So I've put of that purchase of Dropzone Commander until 25th May!

7^th Edition

I’m afraid my enthusiasm for playing 40k is at an all time low.

Readers of my ramblings will know I’m not a huge fan of 6^th Ed. I keep hearing people say things like “6^th Edition is the best rules set ever” or “I’m having more fun with 6^th edition than I’ve ever had”, and it makes me wonder if they’re playing the same game.
