So my first list option is to “tweak” the list I took to the LVO, simply to take out the stuff that didn’t work, building on the stuff that did.
That list would look something like this
Brood Cycle
Iconward
5 Acolytes
5 Acolytes
5 Acolytes
5 Metamorphs
16 Genestealers
10 Neophytes
10 Neophytes
Lords of the Cult
Magus, Level 2, Crouchling
Patriarch Level 2, 2 Familiars
Subterranean Uprising
Primus,
5 Acolytes
5 Acolytes
10 Metamorphs, Cult Icon, 5 Claws, Metamorph Leader with Lash Whip and Bonesword
10 Metamorphs, Cult Icon, 5 Claws Metamorph Leader with Lash Whip and Bonesword
10 Metamorphs, Cult Icon, 5 Claws Metamorph Leader with Lash Whip and Bonesword
Subterranean Uprising
5 Acolytes,
5 Acolytes
10 Metamorphs, Cult Icon, 5 Claws, Metamorph Leader with Lash Whip and Bonesword
10 Metamorphs, Cult Icon, 5 Claws, Metamorph Leader with Lash Whip and Bonesword
10 Metamorphs, Cult Icon, 5 Claws, Metamorph Leader with Lash Whip and Bonesword
Essentially, I’ve swapped out the Rock Saws and 4 Genestealers to put Leaders with Lash Whips and Boneswords in each of the Metamorph units. I’ve also swapped all the Lash Whips for Claws.
The second option is a little more radical, dropping the Insurrection Detachment completely and going for a CAD, and 2 SubTs. Something Like
Combined Arms Detachment
Magus, Level 2, Crouchling
Patriarch Level 2, 2 Familiars
5 Acolytes
5 Acolytes
20 Genestlealers
Subterranean Uprising
Primus,
11 Acolytes, Cult Icon
5 Acolytes
10 Metamorphs, Cult Icon, 5 Claws, Metamorph Leader with Lash Whip and Bonesword
10 Metamorphs, Cult Icon, 5 Claws Metamorph Leader with Lash Whip and Bonesword
10 Metamorphs, Cult Icon, 5 Claws Metamorph Leader with Lash Whip and Bonesword
Subterranean Uprising
Primus
11 Acolytes, Cult Icon
5 Acolytes
10 Metamorphs, Cult Icon, 5 Claws, Metamorph Leader with Lash Whip and Bonesword
10 Metamorphs, Cult Icon, 5 Claws, Metamorph Leader with Lash Whip and Bonesword
10 Metamorphs, Cult Icon, 5 Claws, Metamorph Leader with Lash Whip and Bonesword
So, here I’ve lost the benefits of the Cult Insurrection Detachment (shrouded for everything with infiltratrte on turn 1, d6 dead models returning to any unit that Returns to the Shadows, and +1 to my reserve rolls, and -1 to my opponents) for 4 more genestealers, an extra Primus in the second Sub T, and 12 extra acolytes with cult icons. Oh, and I also get Ob Sec on the 2 units of Acolytes in the CAD.
I have to say, I’m not convinced the benefits of list 2 outweigh the benefits of the Cult Insurrection Detachment.
Thoughts on
· Am I right to swap out the Rock Saws?
· Am I right to swap out the lash whips for claws?
· Are the Metamorph Leaders worth it?
· Do the benefits of the 2nd list outweigh the benefits of the Cult Insurrection Detachment ?
In my opinion the GSC really do work a lot better in their insurrection detachment then in a CAD. The additional models returned to each unit really help to stop kill points against you. While the shrouded and infiltrate benefits are huge. I don't think the benefits of the CAD outweigh these.

ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment. I've no tried a CAD and SubT at a small tournament, and I absolutely agree. The Insurrection Detachment is much better.
